FOUNDER
19 August 1939 – 28 October 2025

To our extended family of clients and partners,
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news of the passing of Stuart Mcloughlin our co-founder and managing director for over 34 years.
Stuart’s pride in Waystone was palpable, and his leadership, supported by Sir Bernard Schreier and CP Holdings Group drove the company to remarkable heights. He was a man known for his fairness, dedication, and hard work, qualities that earned him the respect of everyone who worked alongside him as well as for him.
The business will continue under the guidance of the current Directors, building upon the foundations he put in place. The Waystone team are dedicated to continuing his legacy of excellence and personal service.
The legacy of Stuart McLoughlin’s work across Barlborough, Glasshoughton, and Hatfield transcends the physical transformation of three individual sites. It constitutes a holistic and replicable blueprint for regeneration, proving that the profound social and environmental scars left by industrial decline can be overcome.
Under Stuart McLoughlin’s leadership Waystone worked in regenerating former coal-mining sites unlocking the value of contaminated “legacy land” by blending complex financing and partnerships between the private sector and public bodies. Critically, the approach moved the dial beyond mono-industry dependency, creating mixed-use sites with diverse jobs in logistics, manufacturing, commercial, retail, leisure, education, residential and healthcare to protect against future economic shocks. Furthermore, by actively involving residents from the start, turning potential opposition into local advocacy and ensuring projects met real community needs.
The result was more than new buildings and jobs — it was a restored environment, better public health, and renewed community confidence. This model demonstrates that even the most scarred industrial landscapes can become engines of sustainable, inclusive growth, offering a valuable framework for similar communities countrywide.
We appreciate your support during this time.
